About MU Web
This page contains information about the Marshall University web servers. Although there are several web servers running on the Marshall University network, there are only four servers which are available to the Marshall Community for web publishing:

WWW.MARSHALL.EDU
http://www.marshall.edu/ is the official web server for Marshall University. It is an Internet Information Server running on the Microsoft Server platform.

Requesting Space
Departments and officially recognized organizations sponsored by a full-time faculty/staff member can request space on the www.marshall.edu server. Requests can be made by submitting an Information Service Provider’s Agreement.
MUWEB.MARSHALL.EDU
An Internet Information Server running on the Microsoft Server platform, http://muweb.marshall.edu was originally launched in May 2008 as a mirror site for election results provided by the WV Secretary of State’s Office. It remained online, and serves as a public web server housing non-critical web content. MUWEB allows developers to use a broader range of technologies, without jeopardizing the stability and reliability of the WWW server.

Requesting Space
Space on MUWEB is limited to developers of non-critical content, and should not be used to house public facing content for any department, group, or campus organization. Requests for space should be made through the electronic support site at http://support.marshall.edu.
USERS.MARSHALL.EDU
An Apache web server, http://users.marshall.edu/ is the designated web server for faculty, staff and student personal web pages. As with webpages.marshall.edu, Marshall University is not responsible for the content of personal web pages nor do the views expressed on those page reflect the views of the university.
Requesting Space
Anyone with a MUNet account is allocated 200Mb of space on the users.marshall.edu system where the personal web pages are stored. To request a MUNet account, visit any of the Computing Facilities on campus. For additional information, click here. Note: The 200Mb allocation is part of the roaming V: drive and is shared with space for E-mail and storage.
WEBCONTENT.MARSHALL.EDU
http://webcontent.marshall.edu/ is part of the five-node campus publishing platform built on Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server. The Web Developer Center site you’re now visiting is running on this platform. Sites provisioned on the WEBCONTENT server will be able to take advantage of official Marshall University content templates, pre-built user controls and web parts, in-browser editing of web pages, and many other features that help ease content creation.
Requesting Space
Departments and officially recognized organizations sponsored by a full-time faculty/staff member may choose to have their public facing website provisioned on the WEBCONTENT server and branded with the official public facing template. Requests can be made by submitting an Information Service Provider’s Agreement, and specifying that you’d like to take advantage of the Sharepoint Publishing Platform.
